Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh. – Genesis 2:24 (ESV)
Typically, when we think of marriage, we think of a woman (specifically, a daughter) in her family, leaving her family and becoming a part of her husband’s family. Hence, a number of past and present cultural practices: the wife’s change of name, the dowry, etc. However, I think we’ve got it backwards. I would henceforth like to use this verse as proof that, when they become married, men should be changing their surnames to match their wives’. :)

I’m taking Interpersonal Communication this semester, and we had a presentation specifically on feminism, feminist language, and politically correct language as it affects and influences surname change. With a male/female ratio of 3/18, we guys got flamed before we express our opinions either way.
